Fjarðará, a river nearby worth visiting. It has 25 waterfalls, Gufufoss being the largest. It was harnessed in 1913, Fjarðarselsvirkjun .Fjarðarselsvirkjun is the country’s oldest power plant (1913) still being used and the first alternating current power plant. Furthermore, the first high voltage line was laid to Seyðisfjörður from there. Next to the old power plant stands the first high voltage tower in Iceland.
