Haugsnes, an abandoned farm on the south banks of the river Djúpá. In 1246 this was the site of the battle Haugsnesbardagi, where Þórður kakali and Brandur Kolbeinsson fought, with the loss of Brandur and 105 of his men, the greatest loss of life in any battle ever fought in Iceland.
