Hjarðarholt

Hjarðarholt, a farm and church, long the home of men of influence and a site of official gatherings. For a time it was the residence of the county of Mýrasýsla sheriffs, one of whom died of exposure right by the farmstead in a dreadful winter storm. At a church conference in 1684 a man was condemned and burnt at the stake (1685) for blasphemy.
