Höskuldsstaðir

Höskuldsstaðir, a church and parsonage. Home of famous pastors, e.g. Magnús Pétursson (1710–84), writer of annals, and Eggert Ó. Briem (1840–93), a great scholar. Birthplace of the brothers Sigurður Stefánsson (1744–98), the last bishop at Hólar, and governor Ólafur Stefánsson (1731–1812) (see Viðey, Rvík). A rune–stone from the early 14th century was found in the churchyard.
