Konungsvarða, (“The king’s cairn”) a cemented cairn built at the northern end of Grunnavatnshæð (“Shallow lake hill”) in 1936 to commemorate the trip of King Christian X, of Denmark and Iceland, and his queen Alexandrine across Holtavörðuheiði moor that year. The king’s initials are carved on the cairn.
