Langeyri, a spit of land where Norwegians built a quay and the first whaling station in Iceland in 1883, the famous whaler Svend Foyn being one of the founders. He was a pioneer in Norwegian seal hunting and whale fishing and invented the explosive harpoon which was a revolution in whaling. This station was operated until the early 20th century.
