Ljósavatn

Ljósavatn, (“Lake of lights”) a deep lake, 3.28 km2, good fishing. Farm of the same name. In the year 1000 the home of the lawspeaker and chieftain Þorgeir, who threw his idols into Goðafoss after having converted to Christianity. A new church, Þorgeirskirkja, was consecrated there in summer 2000, marking the 1000th anniversary of the conversion of Iceland.
