Skógar, (“Woods”) a small farm, birthplace of the pastor and poet Matthías Jochumsson (1835–1920), one of the most important poets of the romantic movement in Iceland and writer of the national anthem. A monument in his honour is lacated on a cliff overlooking the road. There is a monument to him on the rocks above the road.
