Sönghellir

Stapafell, (526 m) an elongated tuff mountain with much scree, extending south from the lower slopes of the Snæfellsjökull glacier. On top is a rock, Fellskross, supposedly the dwelling of the “hidden people” or elves. To the north of Stapafell is the Sönghellir (“Singing cave”), known for its echoes. Many names are carved in the rock, including those of Eggert Ólafsson and Bjarni Pálsson who travelled the country in the 18th century.
