Svínadalur, (“Swine valley”) a shallow, broad valley, grassy and fertile, the farms scattered but with good land. Landnámabók (“The Book of Settlements”) says that the valley got its name from the swine of the settler Ingimundur gamli (“the old”). They vanished one year, but were found the following year, their numbers having increased.
