Þórðarstaðir

Þórðarstaðir, a farm, site of one of the finest birchwoods in Iceland. Home of 19th century scholar and book–collector Jónatan Þorláksson (1825–1906), who took great care of the trees. The woods there, at nearby Belgsá river and Bakkasel and the areas of Lundarskógur and Vaglaskógur form the largest woods in northern Iceland and one of greatest in the whole country. Near Þórðarstaðir is a bridge over the Fnjóská river.
