Goðanes, a promontory by Jökulsá downstream from the river Teigará. A temple of Thor was built there in Saga times and some ruins can still be seen on the promontory. A spring which comes up not far from the ruins is reddish because of iron compounds. The name of the spring is Blótkelda (“The spring of sacrifices”) or Blóðkelda (“The spring of blood”), it being believed that the colour and taste of the water derived from the blood of sacrificial animals (or even people).
